Ex-Michigan runner Nick Willis out-leaned France's Mehdi Baala at the finish line to claim the bronze medal in the 1,500 meters with a time of 3:34.16. Competing for New Zealand, Willis will also run in the 800 meters with heats beginning on Wednesday.

Former Indiana track star David Neville qualified for the Olympic finals in the 400-meter dash, crossing the finish line second in his semifinal heat with a time of 44.91. A four-time Big Ten Champion, Neville will compete for a gold medal on Thursday, Aug. 21 at 9:20 a.m. ET.

Katie Smith, formerly of Ohio State, helped the United States women's basketball team down Korea by a score of 104-60. Smith delivered a well-rounded game registering two points, four boards and three assists in nearly 20 minutes of play.

Betsey Armstrong, formerly of Michigan, saved eight shots on goal for the United States women's water polo team as they topped Australia by a score of 9-8.

Minnesota alum Lindsey Berg assisted the United States women's volleyball team in a 3-2 defeat over Italy.

Purdue senior Kara Patterson competed in the qualifying rounds of the women's javelin throw. The 2008 United States Olympic Trials Champion threw for 54.31 meters as her best toss but failed to qualify.
